Chittagong Stock Exchange

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) was established on February 12, 1995 as the second stock exchange in the capital market of Bangladesh. Since its inception, CSE has been playing an important role in activating capital markets for decades. According to Demutualization of Exchanges Act 2013, a 12-member Board of Directors manages the activities of CSE. 4 members are elected from among the exchange track holders, 7 independent members with the approval of the commission, and the remaining one is the managing director. The Board runs the exchange following the Security Act 1920, the Security Ordinance 1969, the Security and Exchange Commission Act 1993, the CSE Automatic Transaction Regulation 1999, the Chittagong Stock Exchange Investors Protection fund Regulation 1999, the Margins Rules 1999, the Stock Exchange Transaction Resolution Provision 1998 and the Demutualisation of Exchanges Act, 2013. CSE introduced a fully automated transaction programme from June of 1998.

At the outset, the number of CSE's scheduled securities was 30 (company-23, mutual found-7), which was raised at the end of December 2019 to 338 (company 299, mutual found-37 and detrnture-2). The amount of paid capital of all the securities enlisted in CSE was 809 million taka at the end of 2019. Total amount of market capital of CSE's all securities rose to 3755 million taka at the same time. The CSE indexes, CASPI-CSE overall share Index, CSE-30 Index and CSCX Index registered at 15593, 12427 and 9404 respectively in 2019. [Muhammad Abdul Mazid]
