Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology

Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) a public university situated at Rawjan upazila on 163 acres of land beside the Chittagong- Kaptai Highway, 25 Kilometers off Chittagong city. Chittagong Engineering College established in 1968 was transformed into Bangladesh Institute of Technology in 1986 as an autonomous institution. Later, the Bangladesh Institute of Technology, (BIT) emerged as a public university under Act XXXI of 2003 with the name Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology.

The university has 3 faculties: Engineering; Electrical and Computer Engineering; Agricultural and Planning under which there are 11 Departments namely:  Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical and Electronics  Engineering,  Computer Science and  Engineering;  Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning and the Humanities. The students are admitted here through a competitive examination.  The departments offer BSc and MSc degrees in Engineering.  After completing MSc, the students may complete MPhil and PhD from the university.

Every Faculties and Departments of the University conduct research programs independently. Earth Quake Engineering Research Center and Environment Research Center of the university also conduct various research works. Simultaneously with the engineering and technological education and research the University conducts research on communication, water resources, environmental and geological studies.

Various subsidiaries of the United Nations, Commonwealth Foundation and University Grants' Commission provide financial and technical support to these research works. Bureau of Research Testing and Consultation (BRTC) look after various issues of research conducted by the students. An annual journal titled Computer Science and Engineering Research Journal (CRERJ) is published regularly from the university.

The Syndicate is the apex decision-making body of the university. All sorts of statutes are codified and amended by the senate. The senate approves the annual budget, reviews overall academic activities and selects a panel for appointment of the vice-chancellor. The syndicate is consisted of 16 members including the vice chancellor. Beside, There are a 29-members Academic Committee, Seven members Finance Committee and seven members Planning and Development Committee.

There are some associations of the students in the university namely, Central Students' Union, Computer Club, Debating Society, Green for Peace, Joyadhwani (Voice of Victory), Film Society, Photography and Art Culture Association. The Central Students Union is an association conducted by the general students of the university. All the students of the University are the members of the union. This association looks after all the affairs of the students simultaneously with the university of authority. Computer Club provides training on computer and Internet. The Computer Club provides scope for computer training and use of Internet. Debating Society has its branches in every hall of the university. The central Debating Society arranges for inter hall and inter department debating competition. The students regularly participate in National debating competition. 'Green for Peace' has been constituted in creating awareness about the environment. The association arranges plantation programmes, and seminars on environmental pollution. Moreover, Joyadhwani is the sole Cultural Association of the university, which organises drama and exhibition. The University Film Society organises workshop, create short films and arranges film shows. The Photography and Art Culture Association organises photography workshop and exhibition.

At present there are 2400 students, 125 teachers, 218 officers and employees in the university. There are 5 halls in this university including one for female students. The halls are Dr. Kudrat-e-Khuda Hall, Shaheed Muhammad Shah Hall, Shaheed Tareq Huda Hall, Female Student Hall and New Hall. The central library of the university has a collection of 44891 books and 775 journals. In addition, Internet facilities are there in every department including the university library.
