Qayyum, Mir Abdul

Qayyum, Mir Abdul (1939-1971) educationist, martyr intellectual. He was born on 6 July 1939 at village Ghagra in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh district. He passed Matriculation examination in 1956 from Gafargaon Islamia High School and IA examination from Gafargaon College in 1958. He obtained graduation from ananda mohan college in 1960 and took MA degree in Psychology from Rajshahi University in 1962. Thereafter he engaged himself in teaching in Kandipara Asgar Ali High School and later in Gafargaon College. In 1964, he joined the research centre in the Department of Psychology in Rajshahi University under a project sponsored by Asia Foundation. He joined as a Demonstrator in the Department of Psychology in rajshahi university in 1966 and later joined as Lecturer.

Mir Abdul Qayyum took part in the mass upsurge of 1969. On the night of 25 November 1971 the Pak army arrested him. Qayyum was buried alive along with others arrested that time. This scaffold is located at Bablatala near the government bunglow in Rajshahi town. [Mohammad Faiquzzaman]
