'''Comilla Medical College''' was established by the government of Bangladesh through up-gradation of existing Medical Assistant Training School situated at Kuchaitali area of the town. Affiliated with the University of Chittagong; it is a public institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the Peoples' Republic of Bangladesh and the college is approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council. It started in the year 1981-82 with 30 students but its activity stopped till 1991-92 when it re-started with 50 students. In subsequent years the intake of students were raised to more than 100. To fulfill the need of clinical demonstration and practical training of the students, Comilla Medical College Hospital with a facility of keeping 500 in-patients exists. The official designations of head of the college and hospital are the ''Principal'' and the ''Director'' respectively and these two sister concerns run their affairs in co-operation with each other. After five years of under graduate education the successful students are conferred with the MBBS degree. After the graduation, to achieve the right of providing medical care and treatment advices to the patients and public in general, it is mandatory for everyone to seek registration from Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council for which at least one year of practical training in various departments of an approved hospital is a requirement.
