CAAB was created in 1972 after reorganisation of the erstwhile Pakistan Airport Development Authority. At present its headquarters is located at the Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. It also inspects fitness of their aircraft, monitors the standard and training levels of airline personnel, and maintains the required standards of airports. CAAB issues private pilot license, commercial pilot license, airlines transport pilot license and also the Airframe (A), Engine (C), Electrical (E), Instrument (I) and Radio/Radar (R) categories of licenses. It organises examinations and tests for the students of Flying Academy of Bangladesh, Air Parabat Flying Academy, Bangladesh Airlines Training Centre, and the Aviation Institute of Aeronautics.
