Sarkar, Eishanchandra Raishaheb
Sarkar, Eishanchandra Raishaheb (1840-1915) Zamindar and philanthropist, was born in 1840 in the village of Eishan Gopalpur of Kotowali thana in Faridpur district. Eishanchandra spent most of his earnings from the zamindari estate for the welfare of the people. His welfare work was not limited within his zamindari estate and he dedicated himself for the welfare of the people of greater Faridpur. At that time there was no health care facility in Eishan Gopalpur village. Eishanchandra Sarkar set up a charitable health center at his residence in Gopalpur. He used to bear all the expenses of this health center. After Eishanchandra';s death in 1915, his son Indubhushan Sarkar set up a hospital in 1925 near to his house and named it 'Eishan Datobbo Chikitshalay'; (Eishan Charitable Health Center) after his father. Eishanchandra Sarkar used to take a lot of interest in education. He established a middle school named 'Eishan Institution'; on his own land in 1885, in the heart of Faridpur city. The morning shift of the school was for the girls while the day shift for the boys. Later, a girls school named 'Eishan Girl';s High School'; was founded at the same place.
