Dhaka Mussalman Suhrid Sammilani
Dhaka Mussalman Suhrid Sammilani a reformist and community development organisation established by Muslim students of dhaka college in 1883. The first managing committee of the organisation included Himmat Ali (president), Abdul Aziz (secretary), Hemayetuddin Ahmad and Johadur Rahim Jahed Suhrawardy (assistant secretaries) and Mokbul Ahmed (treasurer), all of them students of Dhaka College and followers of ubaidullah al ubaidi suhrawardy. The organisation was also known as 'Anjuman-e-Ahbab-e-Islamia'; and 'Dacca Muhammadan Friends'; Union';.
The main objective of Suhrid Sammilani was to work for the welfare of Bengal Muslims. It was specially devoted to the spread of female education and arranged to teach Bangla and Urdu under an 'open-school'; from classes I to V. The organisation held regular monthly and yearly meetings and published annual reports. Six years after its establishment, prominent Muslim citizens took over the management from students: Abul Khair Mohammad Siddique, superintendent of Dhaka Madrasa, became president and Kazi Raziuddin a zamindar and Syed Awlad Hossain, special sub-registrar became vice-presidents.
With the establishment of 'Mohammedan Provincial Union'; in Dhaka on 16 December 1905, the day of the partition of bengal, Dhaka Mussalman Suhrid Sammilani ceased to exist. [Wakil Ahmed] [Ahmed, Wakil former Vice Chancellor, National University]
