Comilla Zila School
Comilla Zila School one of the oldest educational institutions of the district located at Kandirpar of the town. The School secured the top position among the schools under Comilla Education Board and one of the top ten positions among all schools of Bangladesh in the SSC Examinations held in past few years. H G Legistar, a British teacher founded the school in 1837 and himself became its Head Master. Later the government elevated the school to government high school with an object of teaching English literature and science, and it was renamed as Comilla Zila School. The centenary of the school was celebrated in 1937. After liberation in 1971, Comilla Zila School emerged as the best school under the Comilla Education Board.
The school has two shifts, morning and day. The students from class five to class ten are taught here. From five to eight, each class is divided into six sections, 3 in morning and 3 in the day shifts. The upper two classes have four sections, two in the morning shift and two in the day shift. At present, there are 53 teachers and two thousand students in the school. The school uniform consists of half or full shirt, pant and shoes all being white. In winter, blue sweater is added to the uniform. A badge bearing the monogram of the school is fixed on the front pocket of the shirt.
The students are generally admitted in class five or class six through admission test held in January. Students from other government school can get admission to class five or six on transfer.
The institution is divided into four houses each identified by symbol of colours: Abu Zahid house (Sky blue), Dhirendra Nath Datta House (Red), Kazi Nazrul Islam House (Yellow) and Motaher Hossain Chowdhury House (Blue). Various inter-house competitions including sports meet are held every year.
Students of the school also participate in National Cadet Corps, Scouting, athletics, cricket and football tournaments, debate competition, cultural functions, publication of annual magazine and periodicals Math and language competition, science fair and study tour. [Gopal Chandra Bhowmik]
