Narsingdi District
Narsingdi District (dhaka division) area 1140.76 sq km, located in between 23'46' and 24'15' north latitudes and in between 90'34' and 90'59' east longitudes. It is bounded by kishoreganj district on the north, narayanganj and brahmanbaria districts on the south, Brahmanbaria and Kishoreganj districts on the east, gazipur district on the west.
Population Total 1895984; male 974026, female 921958; Muslim 1781817, Hindu 112900, Buddhist 149, Christian 82 and others 1036.
Water bodies Main rivers: meghna, old brahmaputra, arial khan, shitalakshya.
Administration Narsingdi district was a Sub-division under greater Dhaka district and was turned into a district in 1984. 'Of the six upazilas of the district raipura is the largest (312.77. sq km) and palash is the smallest upazila (94.43 sq km).

History of the War of Liberation On 5 April 1971, the Pak army launched an attack on the Narsingdi town with rocket launcher in which 3 innocent persons were killed and more than one hundred shops were burnt to ashes. On 29 April the Pak army brutally killed a man at Gashidia under Shibpur upazila. On 14 July, a direct encounter was held between the freedom fighters and the Pak army at a place near the Belabo sadar in which five freedom fighters including Abul Bashar were killed. At the end of October, two freedom fighters were killed in an encounter with the Pak army at village Chalandia in Shibpur upazila. A battle was fought between the freedom fighters and the Pak army at Putia of this upazila in which a number of Pak soldiers including a captain were killed and so were two freedom fighters. Besides, two freedom fighters of this upazila were killed in an encounter with the Pak army at the end of November. The freedom fighters launched a surprise attack on the Pak Military camp at Monohardi High School and killed five Pak soldiers. In the middle of August an encounter between the freedom fighters and the Pak army was held at village Doshdona under Shukundi union of this upazila in which 4 Pak soldiers were killed.

Main sources of income Agriculture 42.73%, non-agricultural labourer 3.01%, industry 7.26%, commerce 17.84%, transport and communication 3.91%, service 10.55%, construction 1.55%, religious service 0.28%, rent and remittance 2.98% and others 9.89%.

Folk culture Notable folk culture include Dipanvita Bhiatrie Ditiya (occasion of putting kazol and sandal paste on the forehead of brothers by their sisters aspiring for welfare of brothers), Punnah, Jamai Shasthi, etc.
