Soil Association
Soil Association a group of soils occurring together in the landscape in a recognisable pattern, usually determined by parent material, relief and drainage. Soil associations are named after the dominant soil or soils. For example, in the Tejgaon-Noadda association in dhaka district, the two named soils each occupy about 25 per cent of the landscape. The remaining 50% of the association include eight other soil series ranging from minor to a maximum of 20%. In the reconnaissance Soil Survey of Bangladesh 465 soil series have been identified and described. The number of soil associations in Bangladesh, however, is 1,034. So, the number of mapping units is more than double that of the taxonomic units. This has been done for the sake of convenience in mapping. [Md Sultan Hussain]
