Bangladesh Petroleum Institute
Bangladesh Petroleum Institute (BPI) established by the Government of Bangladesh in January 1981 under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The idea behind BPI was to undertake the following activities: impart training to professionals and technicians engaged in the petroleum sector of the country; undertake advanced study/research on hydrocarbon prospects and development; establish a computerised data processing/information centre and perform subsequent operational activities; and provide technical support services to organisations engaged in petroleum activities. BPI has so far imparted training to 2,822 professionals through 141 training courses, seminars, and workshops.
Usually BPI arranges 12/13 training courses (including seminars, workshops, etc) per year in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, petroleum engineering, drilling engineering, well logging, pipeline engineering, petroleum management, gas transmission and distribution, accounting, finance, project management, safety and environment. The institute invites locally available experienced professionals of different levels as resource persons in addition to utilising its own manpower for conducting training courses. Foreign instructors are also engaged when required.
BPI is situated at its own premises at Uttara Model Town of Dhaka. It has a modern conference hall, classrooms, a library, a cafeteria, and an auditorium. It also has a modern computerised data processing and management centre meant for data storage, processing, and other operational activities. [Rafiqul Islam]
