Ahmad, Maulana Mumtazuddin


Ahmad, Maulana Mumtazuddin (1889-1974) Islamic scholar, writer. He was born in the district of feni. He passed Alim, Fazil and Fakhrul Muhaddisin examinations from Aliya Madrasa, Calcutta and Matriculation (1916) from Calcutta University. He started teaching at Aliya Madrasa in 1919 and continued to work there for 34 years. He also worked as a part-time teacher of Arabic in presidency college, Calcutta for some time. After the partition of India in 1947, he came to Dhaka and joined Aliya Madrasa, Dhaka. He was a scholar of hadith literature. His notable books in Arabic, Urdu and Bangla are Al-'Aqd Fi Sharh-i-sab'al Mu'alliqat, Sahlul Ma'alifi Sharhi Maqamal-i-Badiuzzaman al-Hamadani, Nidmat al Munim Fi Sharhi Muqaddima Sahih Muslim, Al Kawkabuddurri Fi Sharhi Muqaddima Mishqat al-Masabih, Kashful Ma'ani Fi Sharhi Maqamat Hariri, Paribagher Shah Saheber Jibani (in Bangla).
