Ahmed, Sultanuddin1 (1902-1977) lawyer, diplomat, Governor of East Pakistan. Born in 1902 in Narsingdi district Sultanuddin Ahmed graduated in 1922 and got his MA and BL degree from the Dhaka University in 1924 and 1926 respectively.

Sultanuddin started practicing law in Dhaka in 1927 and worked as a part time Lecturer for 10 years in the Law Faculty of the Dhaka University. He became a Public Prosecutor and Deputy Legal Remembrancer of the Government of East Pakistan. He also served as Acting Vice Chancellor and as honorary treasurer of the Dhaka University. He was a Syndicate member of the Dhaka University and a member of the Inter-University Board of Pakistan during the period between 1948 and 1952. Sultanuddin was an activist of East Pakistan Cooperative Movement and served as a Director and Deputy Chairman of the Dhaka Central Cooperative Bank. He was also a Director of the State Bank of Pakistan for four years.

Sultanuddin Ahmed started his political career as an assistant secretary of the Muslim League and was elected a member of the Bengal Legislative Assembly (1943-1947). After partition, he was appointed Ambassador of Pakistan to Burma (now Myanmar) and also accredited to Thailand at the same time. He was appointed Ambassador to the People's Republic of China in April 1955, which office he held till his appointment as Governor of East Pakistan on 26 April 1958. He took oath of office on 3 May 1958.

Sultanuddin Ahmed was an Ambassador to Indonesia from January 1959 to January 1964. He was a member of the Pakistan's delegation to the United Nations General Assembly in 1964-1965.

Following the promulgation of martial law in Pakistan, Sultanuddin Ahmed was relieved of his office of Governor of East Pakistan on 10 October 1958.
