Atomic Energy Research Establishment

Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) nuclear research complex under the bangladesh atomic energy commission (BAEC) located at savar, 40 km northwest of Dhaka city. After the independence of Bangladesh trained manpower and other resources were very limited in the commission. There was a proposal to establish a research complex to develop trained resource persons. In 1975 substantial land was acquired for the purpose at Ganakbari, Savar. The AERE is presently performing its functions through the following institutions and divisions on its campus: Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (INST), institute of food and radiation biology (IFRB), Institute of Electronics and Computer Science (IECS), Nuclear Mineral Unit (NMU), Central Engineering Facilities (CEF), Information, Publication and Public Relation Division (IPPRD), AERE clinic, Central Administration Division (CAD), and Central Finance and Accounts Division (CFAD). The outcome of these research programmes has already proved commercially beneficial. Some private entrepreneurs have shown keen interest in using these results for commercial purposes. The infrastructure development works under AERE Phase II were started in 1999 to create an Energy Unit, Central Engineering Workshop, and Central Library. [Miah Md Sirajul Haque]
