Bangladesh Entomological Society

Bangladesh Entomological Society a learned body for entomologists of the country, established in 1990 with provisions of the headquarters being located at the bangladesh agricultural university (BAU), Mymensingh, bangladesh agricultural research institute (BARI), Joydebpur, or bangladesh rice research institute (BRRI), Joydebpur. At present, the head office is located at BRRI, Joydebpur.

The main objectives of the society are to encourage research on different aspects of entomology. It cooperates with other national and international societies related to different branches of life sciences. The society is also committed to upholding the professional interests of the entomologists of Bangladesh. In addition to organising seminars, symposia, biennial conference, and meetings on basic and applied entomology, the society publishes a biannual journal entitled Bangladesh Journal of Entomology.

There are four categories of membership: general, associate, life, and honorary. Any science graduate or specialist having interest in entomology is eligible to become a member. Honorary membership is offered to any eminent entomologist. The society has now more than 200 members spread across universities, research institutes, and other professional organisations.

A 17 member Executive Council including a president, a senior vice-president, a vice president, a general secretary, and a treasurer manages the society's affairs. A separate editorial board consisting of an editor and five members is responsible for publication of the society's journal and other publications. [SM Humayun Kabir]
