Bhattacharya, Anudvaipayan
Bhattacharya, Anudvaipayan (1945-1971) educationist, martyr intellectual. He was born on 31 January 1941 at village jantari in Nabiganj thana of Habiganj district. His father Digendra Chandra Bhattacharya was a school teacher. He passed Matriculation examination from Nabiganj J.K High School in 1961 and ISc examination from Sylhet MC College in 1963. He obtained his BSc (Hons) degree in Physics in 1966 and MSc in Applied Physics in 1967 from Dhaka University.
Anudvaipayan Bhattacharya joined as Lecturer in the Department of Applied Physics in Dhaka University in 1968. He had been working as assistant house tutor in Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University since 1969. He obtained scholarship for higher studies under Colombo plan and was scheduled to leave the country for London on 26 March 1971.
But he was shot dead by the Pakistan army on the night of 25 March 1971 in front of southern building of Jagannath Hall. He was buried in a mass grave of Jagannath Hall.The Postal Department of the Government of Bangladesh issued commemorative postal stamp in the name of Anudvaipayan Bhattacharya on the Martyred Intellectual Day on 14 December 1995. In order to preserve his memory, the library of Jagannath Hall was named as 'Martyr Anudvaipayan Pathagar'. [Miltan Kumar Dev]
