Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) an autonomous body for management of civil aviation of Bangladesh, is responsible for airports, runways and air traffic control, taxiway, terminal buildings, warehouses, control towers, operation and administrative buildings, car parking, air navigation and radio communication system.

CAAB was created in 1972 after reorganisation of the erstwhile Pakistan Airport Development Authority. At present its headquarters is located at the Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. CAAB now issues operating licenses to airliners and their flight and land personnel. It also inspects fitness of their aircraft, monitors the standard and training levels of airline personnel, and maintains the required standards of airports. CAAB issues private pilot license, commercial pilot license, airlines transport pilot license and also the Airframe (A), Engine (C), Electrical (E), Instrument (I) and Radio/Radar (R) categories of licenses. It organises examinations and tests for the students of Flying Academy of Bangladesh, Air Parabat Flying Academy, Bangladesh Airlines Training Centre, and the Aviation Institute of Aeronautics. CAAB follows instructions of the UN International Civil Aviation Organisation for its activities and maintains the standards of the Central Aviation Administration and Federal Aviation Administration.
