Faizullah, Mufti

Faizullah, Mufti (1892-1976) poet and writer, was born in chittagong. He studied at the Darul Ulum Mainul Islam Hathazari Madrassah in Chittagong and at Deoband. After returning from Deoband, he started teaching at the Hathazari Madrasa. The title mufti (expounder) was prefixed to his name as he was known as 'Mufti-e-Azam' (The mufti of the great) for his fatwas (religious pronouncements).

Along with from Bangla, Mufti Faizullah knew Arabic, Persian and Urdu. Apart from a collection of poems in Persian, he also wrote a number of other books in Arabic and Persian.
