Faridpur Zila School

Faridpur Zila School one of the oldest schools, located at the centre of Faridpur district town. In 1840, District Magistrate Edgar F Luther established a school named English Seminary and turned it into Government Zila School in 1851. S Francois Lebefra was the first headmaster of the school. Presently the school set up has eight buildings including a three-storied administrative block. The school compound is comprised of one students hostel, one gymnasium, three playgrounds, a basketball court and two ponds.

The school conducts its academic sessions in two shifts, morning and day. Currently, the school has 1400 students, 50 teachers and ten supporting staff. The students get opportunity to access in the school's rich library and the computer lab.

The students take part in many extra-curricular activities like sports, debate competition, painting exhibition and cultural events. Alongside normal education, students also participate in different ongoing programmes like BNCC, Scouting, Red Crescent Programme, Farming activities, Science and Technology fair. A Managing Committee headed by the local Member of Parliament as its president and the headmaster as its secretary manage the school. Many former students of Faridpur Zila School later became famous in various fields. They include Poet jasimuddin and ANM Bazlur Rashid, Ex-minister LK Siddiqui and Chief Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda. [ANM Abdus Sobhan]
