Krishnanath Nyayapanchanan, Mahamahopadhyay


Krishnanath Nyayapanchanan, Mahamahopadhyay (1833-1911) Sanskrit scholar, authority in Nyaya, Mimamsa and other branches of Indian philosophy, was born at Purbasthali in navadvipa, West Bengal. His father, Keshab Chandra Vidyaratna, was also a sanskrit scholar. Krishnanath was conferred the title of 'Mahamahopadhyay' in 1891. In recognition of his scholarship, he got the post of legislator of Sribharat Dharmamahamandal and principal Smarta (expert in Smriti) of Navadvip. He founded a Sanskrit college and taught there. Among his works are Vataduta, Shyamasantosa, Smritisiddhanta and commentaries on Abhijvanashakuntala, Malamasatattva, dayabhaga, Vedantaparibhasa, Arthasanggraha, Mimangsa-nyaya-prakasha, Tattva-kaumudi.
