Mahavagga

Mahavagga is a book of the Pali Vinayapitaka and is divided into ten chapters. It forms a valuable source of information about Buddha's life, the origin and growth of the Buddhist Sangha and various rules formulated by the Buddha to conduct the daily life of monks. The first chapter, Mahakhandhaka, starts with the Buddha's enlightenment and then proceeds to describe the early conversions and formation of the Sangha. The subsequent chapters deal with medicine as well as the life histories of famous physicians. They also contain rules about different rites observed by monks. [Binayendra Chaudhury]
