Mitra, Satish Chandra (1872-1931) educationist, writer. Satish Chandra Mitra was born at his maternal grandfather's house in village Paikpara of Khulna district on 14 December 1872. He graduated from the Calcutta City College in 1897 and started his career as a schoolteacher in 1899. He joined the Daulatpur Hindu Academy, Khulna as a teacher cum librarian in 1904 and served the institution till his death. Mitra made substantial contributions to archival literature by collecting rare manuscripts and documents and preserving them at the Academy library.

Based on his collections, he wrote a district history in Bangla entitled Jassore-Khulnar Itihas (History of Jessore and Khulna) which is still a common reference source for scholars. He wrote articles, pamphlets and booklets on literature, history, geography, religion and art. These were published in two volumes in 1914 and 1922. [Ratan Lal Chakraborty]
