Mohipur Zamindari
Mohipur Zamindari located at village Mohipur of Gangachara upazilla in Rangpur district. Arif Muhammad, Zamindar of Four and a half anas of Kazirhat Chakla (a region in Nilfamari District), saved his zamindari from the Mughal soldiers by supporting them while they were invaded Kuchbehar. After the death of Arif Muhammad (1722) his son Khulu Muhammad, brother Khairullah Chowdhury, wife Anarkoli Begum and another brother Mojorullah Chowdhury became the zamindar of Mohipur consecutively. Muhammad Amin was the zamindar of Mohipur during the time of the Permanent Settlement in 1793.
After the death of Muhammad Amin, his zamindari was divided in to a number of petite rent free taluk. Condition of the zamindary became deplorable during the time of the next two zamindars, Enayetullah Chowdhury (d.1832) and Ziaullah Chowdhury (d.1883).
After the death of Enayetullah Chowdhury, his Son Khan Bahadur Abdul Majid Chowdhury succeeded the zamindari. He was the member of various committees and vice chairman of the Rangpur district Board from 1892 to 1912. He was one of the main founders of the Rangpur Madrasa, an entrepreneur for modernising the madrasa education of the district and the first chairman (1898) of the Central Mohamedan Association of Rangpur branch founded by Syed Amir Ali. He was also a member of the Shorbo Bharotio Badhatamulak Prathomic Shikha Proborton Committee (All India compulsory Primary Education execution Committee) in 1911. He received the title of 'Khan Bahadur' in 1898 from the government. During his time revenue of Mohipur zamindary was twenty five thousand taka.
Abdul Majid Chowdhury died in 1912. His son Abdul Aziz Chowdhury succeeded the zamindari of Mohipur after him. After the death of Abdul Aziz, his minor child Shamsur Rahman Chowdhury (Abu Miyan) succeeded him by the power of Court of Orders. But the zamindari of Mohipur was abolished under the east bengal state acquisition and tenancy act 1950. [Muhammad Moniruzzaman]
