Mola

Mola common name for Amblypharyngodon mola, an indigenous small fish of the family Cyprinidae, order Cypriniformes.

The fish grows up to about 10 cm with an average body weight of 5g. Body colour is silvery with margins, dorsal and anal fins blackish. Moderately compressed and elongated body is covered with minute cycloid scales. Caudal fin is deeply forked. The fish is rich in vitamin A and calcium.

The fish is a surface-feeder and can be easily cultured in miniponds, ditches, depressions, etc which are below the size of 0.2 acres in water area.  [Md Golam Mostafa]
