NGO Federation was formed in 2003 to protect the NGOs interest and creation of an environment for their operation in Bangladesh. NGOs form an important sector in the development of Bangladesh. It was registered on 4 May 2003 under the Societies Registration Act of 1860.

Objectives of the NGO Federation are to protect and promote the interests of the NGOs, enhance the capacity of small NGOs. 500 big, medium and small NGOs are members of the NGO Federation. Among the NGOs remarkable ones are ALRD, BELA, BRAC, BURO-Bangladesh, CAMPE, CMES, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, DOPR, gonoshasthaya kendra, NGO Forum for DWSS, nijera kari, Padakkhep, RDRS, RIC, Samata, Swanirvar Bangladesh, TMSS, CODEC (Chittagong), Ghashful (Chittagong), CDA, (Dinajpur), Jagoroni Chakra Foundation (Jessore) and SSS (Tangail). Fazle Hasan Abed Founder and Chairperson of BRAC is the Convener of the Advisory Committee and Dr Muhammad Ibrahim is the Chair of the Federation.

Since its inception the Federation has successfully negotiated with the government and various concerned authorities towards NGO friendly policies and work-environment. It has formulated a Code of Conduct for the member NGOs. [Shamsul Huda]
