Nursing Institute

Nursing Institute established in 1946 as the Nursing Training Institute of Dhaka Medical College to develop trained nurses. It was named Nursing Institute in 1986. The institute is headed by its principal who works under the supervision of the Director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

To be eligible to get admission in the institute a candidate has to first successfully complete secondary education. The institute conducts a 3-year Diploma course in nursing and the holders of this diploma can go for a one-year Diploma in Midwifery. The certified nurses serve in hospitals, clinics and nursing homes.

At present, the annual intake in the institute is 180. It has 18 teachers for its 500 trainees at different levels. It has a hostel for the female trainees and a canteen. The library of the institute has a collection of about 5000 books and journals. Nursing Institute at present is upgraded to a Nursing College affiliated with the Dhaka University which confers B.Sc (Hons.) in Nursing degree by examination to successful candidates. [Bayazid Akter]
