Shooting

Shooting a sport usually held at a complex to allow participants to shoot bullets from their firearms at paper targets to achieve accuracy and win points. A shooter's position is at a distance of 10, 25 or 50 metres from the target. He uses a specified costume, hand gloves and shoes.

Until recently, the common people of Bangladesh had little idea about this sport. The scenario changed after two Bangladeshi shooters Atiqur Rahman and Abdus Sattar won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. Shooting is one of the few events in which the Bangladeshi players performed fairly well at international games. In the South Asian Federation (SAF) Games Bangladesh won several gold medals. This sport is, however, confined to a limited number of people and there are only a few shooting clubs in the country. [Gofran Faroqi]
