Hashem, MA (1943-2020) A famous businessman of Bangladesh born on 30 August 1943 in Noakhali. He started his business career in 1962 through tobacco business. Later he developed various establishments in manufacturing and services such as food and beverage, real estate, textile, shipping, plastic, paper, jute, yarn, cotton, aeromarine logistics, agro products, garments. He is the founder of Partex Group. He established M/s Hashem Corporation in early 1970s in Chittagong. After the independence of Bangladesh, he started import business of daily necessities such as cement, steel, iron, sugar, salt. Then he built various mills in the country. Danish Condensed Milk, drinking water Mam Pani, soft drink brands etc. of his Partex group of industries have gained popularity.

MA Hashem

MA Hashem is the founder of two banks namely City Bank Limited and United Commercial Bank Limited. He served as chairman of two banks. He is a founding member of Janata Insurance. MA Hashem was a successful and contented man. The expansion of business in the country has also contributed immensely to industrialization. He created job opportunities for thousands of people. He has contributed a lot to strengthen the economic base of the country. He had been active in the field of education as well. He established MA Hashem College in Noakhali. He is one of the founding members of North South University. He was also the chairman of the board of trustees of this university. North South is a reputed private university of the country.

MA Hashem was elected MP from Noakhali in 2001 in the national parliament election. He has also played an important role in policy making for the country as a Member of Parliament. He has achieved success in the fields of entrepreneurship, education, social service and politics.

MA Hashem was admitted to Evercare Hospital after contracting corona virus. He died on 24 December 2020 at Evercare Hospital in the capital while undergoing treatment. He is survived by his wife Sultana Hashem and five sons Aziz Al Qaiser, Aziz Al Mahmud, Aziz Al Masood, Rubel Aziz, Shawkat Aziz, and many well-wishers and relatives. [Rafiqul Islam Rafiq]
