	The aims and objectives of the Bangladesh Geological Society are: to promote, expand and improve the standard of education and research in fields related to geological sciences throughout Bangladesh; safeguard the interests and prestige of the professional geologists in different organisations and institutions; promote coordination, interaction and collaboration among universities and research organisations and industries in Bangladesh and those of other countries; spread the knowledge of geology and its applications by publishing articles, reports, periodicals, journals etc; organise conferences, seminars and symposia, lectures and workshops on problems of national and professional interest; institute awards for significant contributions to education and research in geological sciences; help to create more job openings for geologists in both public and private sectors; to expand opportunities for higher studies and training at home and abroad for professional geologists; and to cooperate with other learned and professional societies at home and abroad with similar aims and objectives in the interests of national and regional development. The society publishes a scientific journal, the ''Bangladesh Journal of Geology'', twice a year.
