The fish is represented in the deeper water (30-100 m) of the [[Bay of Bengal|bay of bengal]] by only one recognised species, Arioma indica. It is broadly oval with lateral sides moderately compressed, tail forked. Head covered by adipose tissue; body length between 12 and 20 cm.
