&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;New page&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div&gt;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Rahim, Sheikh Abdur&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1859-1931) son of Munshi Sheikh Golam Yahia, a primary schoolteacher, was born in 1859 in the village of Muhammadpur in the Basirhat subdivision of 24-Paraganas, West Bengal. He established himself as a journalist and writer. Abdur Rahim lost his mother in childhood and was brought up under the care of Radhamadhav Basu, the Zamindar of Taki and a Deputy Magistrate. He initially went to a local school in Taki. He then went to Kolkata to complete his secondary education. However, he caught smallpox in 1875 and had to discontinue his studies. Radhamadhav continued to support him. &lt;br /&gt;

Sheikh Abdur Rahim&amp;#039;;s writings were inspired by Islamic idealism. He hoped by his writings to awaken the backward Muslim society. Among his many books on Islam and Islamic ideals are &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Hazrat Mohammader J&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;i&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;bancharita O Dharman&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;i&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;ti&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1888), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Isl&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;mtattva&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1896), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;N&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;m&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;jtattva&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1898), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Hajjbidhi&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1903),&amp;#039;&amp;#039; Islam Itib&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;r&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;tta&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (2 parts, 1910), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;N&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;m&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;j&amp;#039;&amp;#039; &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Shik&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;sa&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1917), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Khotb&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1932), etc. He also wrote two romantic books: &amp;#039;&amp;#039;A&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;lh&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;mr&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1891) and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Pra&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;n&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;ay Y&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;tr&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;i&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1892).&lt;br /&gt;

Sheikh Abdur Rahim also edited and published several magazines: [[sudhakar]] (1889), [[islam pracharak]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; &amp;#039;&amp;#039;(1891), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Mihir&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1892), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Mihir O Sudh&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;kar&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1894), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;H&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;a&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;fez&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1897), [[moslem bharat]] (1900), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Moslem Hitai&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;si&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1911) and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Islam-Darshan&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1916). Sheikh Abdur Rahim was an examiner in Bangla for the Entrance examination held under the [[university of calcutta]]. He was also interested in developing Bangla. His essay &amp;#039;Babgabhasa O Mussulman Samaj&amp;#039;; reflects his concern that Bengal Muslim society impart education in Bangla as well as produce literature in Bangla.
