Ishan Chandra Roy was commonly known as Ishan Raja among the raiyats . He was a small landholder (taluqdar) and a trader. Roy&#039;s influence among the raiyats grew as he took control of the Peasant League formed in 1873 to resist zamindari oppression. With the help of two of his followers, Shambhu Nath Pal and Khoodi Molla, Ishan Chandra succeeded in popularising the League in the Pabna area and bringing peasant problems to the notice of the government.
