Ahmad, Ramizuddin
Ahmad, Ramizuddin (1902-1985) politician and social worker. He was born at Gazipur village of Daudkandi upazila in Comilla district. Ramizuddin Ahmad did his BA (Hons) and MA in Arabic. Later, he did his BL and started practising Law in Comilla. In 1936 he joined ak fazlul huq's krishak praja party and in 1937 was elected member of the Bengal Legislative Assembly. He continued as a member of the Assembly up to 1945 and played an important role in the abolition of the zamindari system and in the amendment of the Tenancy Act.
In 1956, Ramizuddin Ahmad was elected member of the Pakistan National Assembly and became Minister for Communication in 1957. During his office as Minister for Communication, East Pakistan Railway saw considerable improvement. In 1962 he joined the opposition in the Pakistan National Assembly. Alhaj Ramizuddin Ahmad founded many schools. He died in 1985. [Ali Nawaz]
