Bangladesh Chemical Society

Bangladesh Chemical Society (BCS) an organisation of chemical scientists having common professional interests, committed to promote learning. BCS is a non-governmental, non-political national organisation of professional chemists and is dedicated to improving the quality of chemical education and research, industrial and technological output and overall well-being of the chemists and chemical technologists of Bangladesh. It was founded in 1972. Late Prof mukarram hussain khundkar (Dhaka University- DU), Late Prof Mofizuddin Ahmed (DU), Prof KA Latif (Rajshahi University), Late Prof AQ Chowdhury (BUET), Prof AK Shamsuddin Ahmed (Chittagong University), Prof SZ Haider (DU), Late Prof MA Nawab (DU), Prof A Jabbar Mian (DU), Prof SSMA Khorasani (DU), Dr Erfan Ali (BCSIR) and Dr Abdur Rahman (BCSIR) were pioneers behind this venture.

The aims and objectives of BCS are as follows: to promote, expand and improve the standard of education and research in chemistry, chemical technology and related fields throughout Bangladesh; to safeguard the interests and prestige of the professional chemists in different industries and institutions; to promote coordination, interaction and collaboration among universities and research organisations and industries in Bangladesh and those of other countries; to spread the knowledge of chemistry and its applications by publishing articles, reports, periodicals, journals etc; to organise conferences, seminars and symposia, lectures and workshops on problems of national and professional interest; to institute awards for significant contributions in education and research in chemistry and chemical technology and in the development and management of chemical industries.

BCS is run by a 31-member executive committee. Science graduates in chemistry having 3 years of professional experience, graduates in chemical engineering and post-graduates in chemistry, applied chemistry and related fields are eligible for membership of the society. [SZ Haider]
