Yogindra Chandra Chakraborty joined Indian National Congress in 1890 and was elected the general secretary of the Dinajpur district unit of the Party. Later he became the president of the Dinajpur district unit. In 1919 he was elected chairman of Dinajpur Municipality. He was again elected chairman of the Municipality in 1928 and continued in the position till 1939. Yogindra Chandra Chakraborty took active part in all the anti British movements. He had pioneering role in the movement during the Partition of Bengal in 1905 and in Non-Cooperation Movement of 1921-1922.
