Ghior Upazila

Ghior Upazila (manikganj district) area 145.95 sq km, located in between 23°47' and 23°57' north latitudes and in between 89°49' and 89°59' east longitudes. It is bounded by daulatpur (manikganj) upazila on the north, shibalaya and harirampur upazilas on the south, manikganj sadar and saturia upazilas on the east, Shibalaya and Daulatpur (Manikganj) upazilas on the west.

Population Total 138479; male 69171, female 69308; Muslim 119403, Hindu 19042, Buddhist 21 and others 13.

Water bodies Main rivers: dhaleshwari, Kaliganga, ichamati, Gangdubi; Bairagir Beel is notable.

Administration Ghior Thana was formed in 1919 and it was turned into an upazila in 1983.

History of the War of Liberation During the war of liberation in 1971 forty three villagers were killed by the Pak Army on 22 November at village Terasree.

Access to electricity All the unions of the upazila are under rural electrification net-work. However 28.40% of the dwelling households have access to electricity.

Sources of drinking water Tube-well 95.19%, tap 1.07%, pond 0.31% and others 3.43%.

Sanitation 48% (rural 46.41% and urban 81.64%) of dwelling households of the upazila use sanitary latrines and 48.06% (rural 49.49% and urban 17.84%) of dwelling households use non-sanitary latrines; 3.94% of households do not have latrine facilities.
