Hossain, Belayet
Hossain, Belayet (1887-1984) Islamic thinker and educationist. Belayet Hossain came to Dhaka from Birbhum in 1905. He secured first place in Zamat-i-Ula, in 1909 and Kamil, in 1913. He joined Dhaka Mohsinia Madrasa as a teacher in 1913, Chittagong Madrasa in 1922 and Calcutta Alia Madrasa in 1926 and retired from teaching in 1947. For his great scholarship in Islamic lore he was awarded the title ‘Shamsul Ulama’ by the Indian Government in 1933. [ABM Saiful Islam Siddiqi]
