Huq, Abul Qasem Faizul
Huq, Abul Qasem Faizul (1944-2007) educationist, politician. He was born on 15 March 1944 in Kolkata. Faizul Huq is the son of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq. He passed BA (Hons) in Political Science in 1966 and MA in 1967 from Dhaka University. He obtained LL.B degree from Dhaka Central Law College in 1970.
Faizul Huq started his career as a Lecturer in Political Science at Notre Dame College in 1969. He was the executive adviser of Salam and Associates (1969-1972), vice-chairman of Dhaka Urban Co-operative Bank and adviser of Navana Traders and Milners (1975-76). In recognition of his service to the society he was awarded the Lions International Prize. He was the president of Dhanmondi Lions Club. Besides, he was the member of Bangladesh Family Planning Association, member of the executive committee of Brothers Union Club, member of Singapore based Asian Mass Information Centre, Bangladesh Sports Writers Association, Dhaka Victoria Sporting Club, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and member of executive committee of Bangladesh National Shooting Federation, associate member of YMCA, life member of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, convenor of constitutional committee of Mohamedan Sporting Club and patron of Purbachal Parishad and of East End Club.
Faizul Huq was elected a member of Pakistan National Assembly as a candidate of Awami League in 1970. At one stage of War of Liberation he made statement in favour of Pakistan army and the government. In 1979 he joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and was elected a member of Jatiya Sangsad as a nominee of that party. Subsequently he joined the Awami League and was elected a member of Jatiya Sangsad in 1996. He was the Deputy Minister in the Awami League cabinet in charge of Ministry of Jute and Textiles.
