Jessore Science and Technology University
Jessore Science and Technology University (JSTU) a public university established in 2007 under Act 44 of 2001. The university was established on 35 acres of land at Ambottola beside the Chaugachha-Jhenidah Highway, 10 km off the Jessore sadar.
The academic activities of the university began on 10 June 2009 with 205 students of 4 departments: Aquaculture and Fisheries, Computer Science and Information Technology, Environmental and Health Management and Microbiological Science. At present, there are 10 departments under three faculties such as Engineering and Technology, Biological Science and Technology, Applied Science and Technology. The departments are: Computer Science and Engineering, Industrial Production and Engineering, Petroleum and Mining Engineering, Microbiology, Aquaculture and Fisheries, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Environmental Science and Health, Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy and Nutrition and Food Technology. There are 1000-degree level students in these departments.
In 2010, there were 41 teachers and 73 officers and staff in the university. There are 2 student halls, Shaheed Masiur Rahman Hall and Sheikh Hasina Hall, residence of the Vice Chancellor, one residential complex for the teachers and a residential quarter for the officers and staffs. The Central Library of the University has 1000 books. In addition, there is a playground and a gallery where various programmes are organised and a playground.
