Makhzan-i-Afghani

Makhzan-i-Afghani a history of the Afghan rulers in India written by Khwaja Nimatullah. There is another book by the same author which goes by the name of tarikh-i-khan jahani wa makhzan-i-afghani. The Makhzan-i-Afghani was translated into English by Dorn as early as 1829 and found wide publicity.

Modern scholars are divided in their opinion regarding the identity of the Tarikh-i-Khan Jahani and Makhzan-i-Afghani. Henry Elliot, Abdul Halim and some others are of the opinion that the books are but different recessions of the same title whereas others like SM Imamuddin think that these are two separate books. The work is an important source for the history of the Afghan rulers of Bengal. [Abdul Karim]
