Talukdar, Abdul Momin

Talukdar, Abdul Momin (1929-1995) lawyer, politician. He was born on 1 September 1929 at Belkuchi in the district of Pabna. His father was Abdul Gafoor Talukdar. He obtained B.Sc degree from Pabna edward college. Later he took LLB degree from dhaka university and joined the Pabna district bar.

Momin Talukdar was involved in politics from his student life. In 1949 he was elected general secretary of Pabna district unit of Purba Bangla Chhatra League. Between 1953 and 1956 he was the president of Chhatra League. He played a vital role in the language movement as the convenor of All Party State Language Movement of Dhaka University. Abdul Momin Talukdar was vice president of Pabna district Awami League. In 1970, he was elected a member of the Pakistan National Assembly as a nominee of the awami league.

During the war of liberation, Abdul Momin Talukdar was appointed as motivation officer in guerilla training camp by the mujibnagar government. As a member of the delegation of the Mujibnagar government he visited Nepal to enlist support in favour of liberation struggle.

After liberation, Momin Talukdar was elected a member of the jatiya sangsad as a nominee of Awami League in 1973. He was the Deputy Minister of the Bangladesh Government in charge of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative. He died on 15 August 1995. [Md. Ali Akbar]
