Udayan Uchcha Madhyamik Bidyalaya a famous traditional Bangla medium school is located in the dhaka university campus. S R L Maria wife of Mr Turner, the Head of the Department of English founded the school in 1955 as an English Preparatory School in a tin shed house adjacent to the southern wall of the Vice Chancellor';s official residence. It was renamed as Udayan Bidyalaya in 1972. During this time, leading industrialist Anwar Hossain constructed a two-storeyed building there for the school, which was upgraded as an Uchcha Bidyalaya and an Uchcha Madhyamik Bidyalaya in 1975 and 1999 respectively. The school is being run independently since its inception keeping itself free from any influence of the Dhaka University administration. It has become a top class school of the country's grade one schools in terms of its standard of education, results and discipline. Meanwhile, the school was enlisted in the MPO list. In 1977, it got the formal recognition of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka and since then, a committee constituted as per regulation of the Board is administering the school.

The school was shifted to its present location at Tentultola on Fuller Road in 1985 from its original location as the university syndicate decided to set a girl students hostel there. The syndicate allotted 30 thousand square feet of land on which a new five-storeyed school building was contracted as per design of famous architect Dr Shamsul Wares of bangladesh university of engineering and technology (BUET). Supported by a civil engineering firm the building project was implemented by an established construction company. The new five storeyed building of Udayan Uchcha Madhyamik Bidyalaya has a space of 16,960 square feet and 52 rooms. The cost of construction of this building, procurement of furniture and equipment and transfer at properties from the old site exceeded one hundred million taka, was borne by the school administration from its own fund. At present, the school has about three thousand students, both male and female. Students are admitted here through an open and competitive annual examination.

There are 54 teachers in school level and 17 in college level under the supervision of the Headmaster, who is assisted by two assistant headmasters. The school also has seven office staffs and 16 peons. Scouting and girl guides; programmes are included in the school's extra-curriculum activities. The school has its own band party.
