Ghulam Faruque was appointed Governor of East Pakistan in 1962 and took oath of office on 11 May. He made significant contributions to the development and extension of the Jute Industry in East Pakistan. In view of the political upheaval in East Pakistan, Ghulam Faruque initiated a dialogue with the political leaders led by H.S Suhrawardy. They demanded annulment of the new Constitution (1962) of Pakistan along with the report of the Education Commission. At the same time the students were in a movement to protest against the controversial recommendations of the National Education Commission known as Sharif Commission. In such a situation Ghulam Faruque decided to resign from the governorship and his resignation was accepted on 28 October 1962. | |||
