Gosairhat Upazila
Gosairhat Upazila (shariatpur district) area 198.77 sq km, located in between 23°05' and 23°10' north latitudes and in between 90°20' and 90°34' east longitudes. It is bounded by damudya and bhedarganj upazilas on the north, muladi and hizla upazilas on the south, haimchar upazila on the east, kalkini upazila on the west.
Population Total 152558; male 76658, female 75900; Muslim 145493, Hindu 7048 and others 17.
Water bodies Main rivers: meghna, Jayanti.
Administration Gosairhat Thana was formed in 1921 and it was turned into an upazila in1983.

History of the War of Liberation During the war of liberation, five freedom fighters of this upazila were killed in encounters with the Pak army. The razakars killed many people of the upazila; they also conducted indiscriminate ravages.

Access to electricity All the unions of the upazila are under rural electrification net-work. However 10.13% of the dwelling households have access to electricity.
Sources of drinking water Tube-well 88.80%, tap 0.2%, pond 3.97% and others 7.03%. The presence of arsenic in an intolerable level has been detected in 1400 shallow tube-wells (50% of the total tube-well) of the upazila.
Sanitation 29.62% of dwelling households of the upazila use sanitary latrines and 58.55% of dwelling households use non-sanitary latrines; 11.83% of households do not have latrine facilities.
